If you’ve ever had your picture taken by a DSLR camera, you might notice how everything in the background is blurred. The aim of portrait mode on Snapchat is to imitate this. It can turn normal photos into portraits by softening the background.

The front camera on your iPhone is the one that works. Some of you who have an iPhone with Face ID, such as iPhone X and above, may find that portrait mode on Snapchat is enabled by default. The rest of you have to manually turn it on. Snapchat on Android cannot access the feature for some reason. The app’s custom lenses can help you achieve a similar effect.

How to activate Portrait Mode on Snapchat

    Tap on the Snapchat camera.

To access the Control Center, swipe down from the right corner.

Find Snapchat Controls at the top of the screen. Tap on it.

Tap the Portrait icon to highlight it in white.

Now, the Snapchat camera will blur everything except for your face.

To increase or decrease the blur effect, tap the arrow icon and drag the slider.

By using this method, Studio Lights, Reactions, and Centre Stage can be turned on on Snapchat too.

How to disable Portrait Mode on Snapchat

    Open Snapchat camera.

Swiping down from the top right will bring down the Control Center.

Click Snapchat Controls at the top of the Control Centre.

To disable it, tap on the Portrait icon.

If you go back, the Snapchat camera won’t display any blur effect.

The portrait effect is an excellent way to enhance your selfies, and I frequently utilize it when I am snapping photos to share with my friends for our Snapchat streak. I comprehend why some people might dislike it and would rather not have it. I hope this guide has been helpful for you in using portrait mode on Snapchat.
