Biography
On December 24th, 1989 in Bareilly, Kanan joined a Sikh family and was raised in Dehradun and Delhi. Charanjit Singh Gill, his father, was also a military officer and the headmaster of Rashtriya Military School in Bangalore.
Ahlcon Public School and Frank Anthony Public School were where he attended. Later, he attended M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, where he obtained his B.E. in Computer Science.

Career
Exeter Group Inc. was where Kanan spent three years as a software engineer. During that time, he participated in and won a contest called Punchline Bangalore, followed by another victory at the Comedy Store in Mumbai. To pursue a career in comedy, he resigned from his job.
He found his courage and headed straight for the open mic at the comedy store in Bombay. The audience is always entertained by his humor. Kanan made this his career and choice without any hesitation. He along with Biswa Kalyan Rath started a YouTube channel and a series called as the Pretentious Movie reviews, which became a sensation amongst the Youngsters, and they became the Internet cool guys. Gunda was the first movie that Kanan and Bisware watched together. Kanan participated in an improv sketch comedy show called The Living Room, which was broadcasted on Comedy Central. In Sunil Sippy’s film Noor, he will be making his debut as an actor alongside Sonakshi Sinha.
In his early days as a comedian, Kanan Gill encountered Biswa Kalyan Rath, who was also a budding comedian. Together, they created the YouTube series ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’, where they critique Bollywood movies in their own humorous and eccentric ways. In India’s movie-craze, the reviewers garnered a large following by reviewing popular movies like ‘Gunda’, ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Prem Aggan’, and ‘Aap Ka Suroor’. Their rising popularity in India soon gained them international notice as well and Gill was given a chance to work in an improvised sketch comedy show, ‘The Living Room,’ on the American channel Comedy Central. YouTube FanFest India was co-hosted by him and he was a key player in the YouTube Comedy Hunt. Kanan Gill was determined to reach greater heights, so he ventured into Bollywood films in 2017 with a minor role in the Sonakshi Sinha-directed ‘Noor’.
On Netflix, he released his special called ‘Yours Sincerely’ in 2020. During the 2023 season, he was a part of the Norwegian romantic comedy called Christmas As Usual with Ida Ursin-Holm. Acts of God, Gill’s first novel, was published by HarperCollins on January 18, 2024. It is a comedy-science fiction story based on a short story that he wrote in 2016-17.
